CPR Equipment

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) equipment is essential for both training and real-life emergency situations to restore blood circulation and oxygenation in the body during cardiac or respiratory arrest. Below is an overview of key CPR equipment, categorized by use in training and actual emergencies, based on current standards and available information.

CPR Equipment for Training

Training equipment is designed to simulate real-life scenarios, allowing individuals to practice CPR techniques safely and effectively. Common items include:
  • CPR Manikins: These are the cornerstone of CPR training, simulating human anatomy for practicing chest compressions and rescue breaths. Available for adults, children, and infants, they often include feedback systems to monitor compression depth, rate, and technique. Brands like Prestan, Laerdal, and Brayden offer models with features like LED feedback or Bluetooth-enabled apps for real-time performance data. Prices range from $200 to over $10,000 for advanced models.

AED Trainers

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) trainers simulate the use of a defibrillator without delivering actual shocks. They help trainees practice attaching pads and following prompts. Models comply with current Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) guidelines and are cost-effective for classroom use.

CPR Masks and Face Shields:

These allow hygienic practice of rescue breaths. Pocket masks with one-way valves and disposable face shields prevent cross-contamination during training.
  • Bag Valve Masks (BVMs): Used in professional rescuer training, BVMs (also called Ambu bags) simulate advanced ventilation techniques. They are intended for skilled personnel due to their complexity.

  • Feedback Devices: Devices like the Beaty CPR feedback tool provide real-time data on compression depth (5–6 cm for adults), rate (100–120 per minute), and recoil, ensuring trainees meet American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

  • Training Kits: All-in-one kits for instructors often include manikins, AED trainers, face shields, lung bags, gloves, and manuals. These are designed for AHA courses like Heartsaver CPR, BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

  • First Aid Supplies: Gloves, gauze, antiseptic wipes, and bandages add realism to training scenarios, preparing trainees for various emergencies.

  • Visual Aids and Manuals: Posters, DVDs, and AHA-approved manuals reinforce CPR concepts and ensure compliance with training standards.
